All of these are pretty old concepts from early Wrath of this Lich King development.
All 3 are drawings from one of my old sketchbooks, and the top and bottom ones were painted in greyscale in photoshop and then had color overlaid.
The bottom one shows a more further along concept using this method. After the overlays were applied, I painted them in with a few brushstrokes to make it look like it was harder to do, lol.
Again, these are creature concepts I made for Wrath of the Lich King. I have more, but I cannot post them here.....yet.

Do you always draw in black and white tones at first? And then just paint over?
